Chapter 01 / The name

The map was complete.
A place was missing.

In our story, the first thing to arrive from Torenza was not a person. It was a word. It lingered on screens after the video ended, like a song whose last line you cannot remember.

On the other side, in a library in Elaris, Mara was repairing a radio that played nothing but static. She had not heard the lighthouse in weeks. That night, between two crackles, she caught a question.

“Where are you from?”

Mara turned the dial. The same question. Five times. Then a voice, very quietly: “I cannot find my country.”

She opened the atlas. The harbours were there. The mountains. Every route between the islands. On the last page, her grandfather had left a note: A map knows where things are. It never knows who is missing.

Mara left the radio on. For the first time, she stopped looking for a frequency. She tried to answer.

Chapter 02 / Five signals

Nobody answered
with coordinates.

The imagined Torenza lighthouse above the sea at dawn
THE LIGHTHOUSE / A SIGNAL ACROSS FIVE REGIONS

The signal travelled across Torenza. In Elaris, someone brought an extra chair into the square. In Auren, a baker left her window open long after the day was done.

In Valtor, they lit a lamp in a cabin that had stood empty for years. In Nerath, someone wrote a question on the library wall: “What would you do if you found someone who understood?” From Kael, they sent a bottle out to sea without asking it to return.

Mara wrote down the five replies. None of them said where Torenza was. All of them said the same thing in a different way.

“Come as you are.”

Then the radio changed. It was no longer one voice. It was hundreds of small sounds: a laugh, a key, footsteps on snow, a cup finding its place on a table.

They were not calls for rescue. They were people imagining where they wanted to be.

Chapter 03 / The empty chair

The lighthouse
did not point to shore.

An empty chair and an open book of arrivals inside the fictional lighthouse
THE BOOK OF ARRIVALS / A PLACE WAITING FOR YOU

Mara climbed one hundred and seven steps with the radio under her arm. At the top there was no lamp. There was a table. On the table, a book of arrivals. The first line read:

“Nobody has to prove they belong. Only choose to stay.”

Below it were names from every region. Some were nicknames. Others had little drawings beside them. Next to each name was another: someone that person had made room for.

Mara understood why the lighthouse had been silent. It was waiting for its next message. One person could not write it. Torenza had to choose what to say to the people still searching.

She connected the radio. Opened the book to a blank page. Pulled up a chair.

And this time, when someone asked where Torenza was, she did not give an address.

“Here. There is room, if you want it.”

The next line has your name on it.
